Our Story

Ify: We met on December 18, 2020, at Tambou Lounge in McDonough, Georgia. During this time, many people were quarantined, businesses weren’t comfortable operating with large crowds, and most people were wearing masks. I would always say, “Babe, we met at the peak of the pandemic.” That night, I approached her and started small talk. We ended up hitting it off and exchanging numbers. We scheduled a date immediately after we met, but I declined because I caught COVID. She assumed I was lying and making excuses. Mimah flew back to Indiana to continue her doctoral program at Purdue. We kept in contact, and I expressed how sad I was that I missed our date and would love to fly and see her. On January 25, 2021, I flew to visit Mimah in Lafayette, Indiana. I expressed that I loved her, and we agreed to continue our long-distance relationship by visiting each other every other month. We maintained our long-distance relationship for two years until she landed a job at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. Mimah immediately moved in with me, and our second chapter began.

Mimah: During this new chapter, we’ve enjoyed sharing our lives with each other in person rather than on FaceTime. One of my favorite daily routines is when Ify whispers goodbye to me at around 5 a.m. before he heads to the gym. He always throws in a random message that makes me giggle, like “We’re gonna be on the real ‘Love Island’ when we get married in the Bahamas.” After almost two years of living together, Ify asked me to marry him, and I said, “Of course!” Now we look forward to celebrating the beginning of our next chapter with you.
