Royal Caribbean International Cruise - Voyager of the Seas
Missy and Erik will be leaving on their Honeymoon on August 22, 2024! They will be landing in Athens Greece on the 23rd, and spending the weekend exploring the Acropolis, the new Acropolis Museum, the National Archeological Museum, and a day trip to Delphi before boarding the Royal Caribbean Voyager of the Sea on the August 26th for their 7-day cruise. Their first shore excursion will be on Day 2 in Mykanos Greece! This full day adventure packs in all the Greek history, culture, and food they could desire as they explore Delos' ancient ruins, eat lunch in Ano Mera village, and take a guided stroll around Mykonos Town. A ferry boat first whisks Missy and Erik away to the uninhabited island of Delos, once a thriving religious and trading center and the mythological birthplace of Apollo. They can comb the ruins of Doric temples, the famous Terrace of Lions, plus houses filled with elaborate mosaics, and an Archaeological Museum that houses excavated artifacts. They'll then arrive in Ano Mera village to tour with their guide including entering the Panagia Tourliani monastery. Dating to 1542, this whitewashed worship space was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and now features wooden iconostasis by Florentine artists. In a nearby tavern, they'll be treated to a spread of Greek salads, souvlaki, Greek delicacies, wine and beer. They will top off the day with a guided walking tour of Mykonos Town, where they'll meander a maze of narrow streets lined with Cycladic architecture. This is a multi-dimensional Mykonos experience all on one exciting tour.Their second shore excursion will be on Day 3! They will be spending the day in Santorini. Transfer from the ship to shore is via tender. They will then board their motorcoach to begin a comprehensive tour of beautiful Santorini. The first stop will be the ancient site of Akrotiri. Unearthed in 1967 after being shrouded for over 3,000 years, Akrotiri is remarkably preserved and offers great insight into the island's ancient history. They will continue on to a traditional winery on the island for an opportunity to sample the fruit of the local vine. The next stop will be the picturesque village of Oia. Perched high atop the cliffs of Santorini's northern terminus and known for its quiet beauty and spectacular sunsets, this spot boasts breathtaking views of neighboring volcanoes. They will stroll through the narrow, cobblestone lanes, view the brilliantly whitewashed buildings, shops, sun-bathed cafés and blue-domed churches. Missy and Erik will enjoy a lively Greek celebration with the food, wine and dances of Greece in one of Santorini's renowned Greek restaurants, together with great views of this scenic island. They will join in the lively celebration, dancing to ‘Zorba the Greek' and breaking plates while the bouzouki plays its solo. They'll then continue to Fira town, the lovely capital of the island built on the rim of the caldera wall, before returning to the ship.Day 5 will have Missy and Erik in Sicily. They will discover the medieval, Sicilian towns of Erice and Segesta, where they will encounter history, art, and beauty at every turn. This will be a fantastic day to explore the country and it’s vineyards, and ruins! Day 7 will be the last shore excursion, a trip to the fascinating, ultra-modern Oceanographic, the largest aquarium in Europe! Both Missy and Erik share a love of aquariums, and this was a no brainer to finish their cruise with! Missy and Erik will be spending a day at the end of the cruies in Barcelona, Spain before heading home to Laingsburg, MI. They have never been on a cruise and are super excited to experience it all!
